- A senior Professor, researcher, consultant, and a lifelong learner, having more than 47 years of teaching, research, and professional experience in civil/environmental engineering.
- Co-Author of the Textbook on “Water Supply and Sanitation: Rural and Low-Income Urban Communities”, published by ITN-BUET and widely used as a text/reference book at all technical universities in Bangladesh as well as in many universities in Asia, Europe, North America, and Africa.
- Leadership in the development of the Concept, Master Plan and Technical Design, and in leading the field team for successful implementation of the Project “Integrated Development of Hatirjheel” aimed at improving drainage congestion, traffic situation and wetland restoration of central Dhaka.
- Developed Pollution Abatement Strategies for Rivers and Wetlands in and Around Dhaka City; report prepared in 2010 for UNDP for its intended mission to provide technical support to the Government of Bangladesh to save and restore the rivers and wetlands in and around Dhaka city.
- Leadership in the formulation of Institutional and Regulatory Frameworks (IRF) for FSM (2015-2017) in Bangladesh adopted by the Government of Bangladesh as a national policy document.
- Lead role in the formulation of “National Strategy for Water Supply and Sanitation in Hard-to-Reach Areas of Bangladesh 2012”, adopted by the Government of Bangladesh.
- Provided leadership in the formulation of the “National Sanitation Strategy 2005”, adopted by the Government of Bangladesh.
- Lead role in developing the National Action Plans (NAP) for Implementation of Institutional and Regulatory Framework (IRF) for FSM (2019-2020) in Bangladesh.
- Played the key role in establishing ITN-BUET and worked as the Curricula Development Specialist (1996 to 2001) with the responsibility of reorienting the course curricula of water supply and waste management in Bangladesh.
- Led ITN-BUET as Director (2003 to 2008) of the center, in consolidating the development of a human resource base linking ITN-BUET with other engineering educational institutions, government agencies, and national and international NGOs in the pursuit of strengthening capacity of the water supply and sanitation sector in the country.
- Provided leadership in the establishment of the Center for Environmental and Resource Management, CERM at BUET and as the founder Director of the center (2000 to 2005) contributed to the development of many “Professional Development Courses” on various contemporary environmental issues of national and global concerns.
- Participated as a researcher in an international research project among Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka, the Netherlands, and Finland, titled “Women, Work, Well-being, Waste and Sanitation: Action research on alternative strategies of environmental sanitation for improved health and socio-economic development in peri-urban coastal communities in South Asia” (2003-2006).
- Providing continual advisory services as a National Specialist in Sanitation, Water Supply and Environmental Management sectors as Member of National Forum for Water Supply and Sanitation Sector (the highest decision-making body in the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, Government of Bangladesh).
