Biography
Dr Muhammad Mizanur Rahaman is currently a Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at United International University. Previously, he served as a Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Asia Pacific, Bangladesh. He also worked at Department of Civil Engineering, Aalto University, Finland, and as a full-time residential visiting scholar at University of Cambridge, United Kingdom. He received formal pedagogy education and training on grading, curriculum design and test evaluation from Finland and University of Cambridge, UK. During 2016-2017, Professor Rahaman worked as an invited visiting professor at OSCE Academy, Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
Professor Rahaman is the author of over 75 scientific articles among which 45 are peer-reviewed publications. His research findings are published in many reputed journals including Natural Resources Forum; Water Policy; International Journal of Water Resources Development; Water International; and Integrated Environmental Assessment and Management among others. He has given oral presentations in numerous national and international scientific conferences including eight as an invited speaker. Professor Rahaman has been an invited lecturer in ten universities including University of Toronto (Canada), University of East Anglia (UK), University of Bergen (Norway), Fudan University (China), University of Helsinki (Finland) and OSCE Academy (Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan).
His current research interests are integrated water resources management, transboundary river basin institutions, water conflicts and security, global water policies, water laws, and water pricing, both nationally and internationally, including South and Central Asia, Myanmar, and Europe. He has also experience of working in the field in Bangladesh, Bhutan, Canada, Finland, India, Kyrgyzstan, Nepal, and United Kingdom.
Professor Rahaman is serving as an editorial board member of the International Journal of Water Resources Development (Taylor and Francis). Previously, he served as an editorial board member of Water International (2007-2009) and International Journal of Sustainable Society (2008-2022). He regularly peer reviews articles for journals including International Journal of Water Resources Development; Water Resources Management; Wiley Interdisciplinary Reviews: Water; Environmental Science and Policy; International Journal of River Basin Management; Natural Hazards; Natural Resources Forum; International Environmental Agreements: Politics, Law and Economics; Urban Water Journal; Environmental Progress and Sustainable Energy; GeoJournal; and Environmental Management among others. Professor Rahaman was interviewed by global news channel Aljazeera about Egypt’s reaction to the construction of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam on Nile river basin. He was also the founding coordinator of “Cambridge Water Reading Group“.
